# Register your LLC with Whop

Whop is building the first end-to-end API for running a business.

That now includes the ability to turn any hustle into a real, registered business as an LLC.

Forming an LLC can help your personal assets stay protected from business liabilities, allows you to keep more revenue with pass-through tax savings, and grants you an EIN to open a business bank account.

If you're ready to make your business official, we can help you [register an LLC](https://whop.com/register-llc/?step=welcome) directly.

## What is an LLC and why should I register as one?

LLC stands for Limited Liability Company.

The key word there is **liability**. With an LLC, you're shifting much of that away from you as a person and onto your business entity.

If you're a smaller creator, a solo service business, or running an ecommerce storefront, operating as yourself is fine, until it isn't. Say your business gets sued or owes money, you're on the line – personally.

If you form an LLC, there's a protective layer between your business as a company and you as a person. It keeps your taxes cleaner, allows you to open and run a business bank account, and you tend to look more legitimate in the eyes of business partners and larger clients.

### Do I need to register as an LLC to sell with Whop?

Nope! You can register whenever you're ready.

If you're just starting up, testing an idea, or still comfortable operating as yourself? That's fine. Continue as an individual.

You can always form an LLC when you're earning consistently (or taking on real risk).

## Simplifying the registration process

Traditionally, registering as an LLC involves a lot of heavy lifting.

Typically, that means filing articles of organization, paying state fees, appointing a registered agent, and then applying separately for an EIN through the IRS. It can be time-consuming and tedious, which is what puts a lot of business owners off registering.

That's the exact friction we're removing.

Whop acts as the middleman, so we can help you register your LLC in minutes. You pick your business name, tell us your industry and business type, add the founder(s) details, and pay.

From there, we handle the filing with the relevant state as well as your EIN application for you.

Registering your LLC through Whop doesn't just get your business incorporated. It also means everything else you need to run and scale it (payments, payouts, cards, ads, and the rest of the Whop API) is already in one place.

## Form your LLC with Whop

The most straightforward way to register your LLC is from our portal.

But if you're a developer building on Whop, the API and [CLI](https://whop.com/blog/cli/) let you do the same thing from your own app or terminal.

Ready to register? Head to the [registration portal](https://whop.com/register-llc/?step=welcome), register it with our API, or use Whop's CLI with the command `whop accounts llc`.

## Whop LLC FAQs

### Which state should I form my LLC in?

Most people use the state they reside and operate from. While you can form in any US state, the right choice depends on your circumstances. If you're unsure, it's worth speaking to an accountant or attorney.

### Can I form an LLC if I'm not in the US?

Yes, you can form an LLC through Whop without a US Social Security Number (SSN), whether you're registering through the portal, the API, or the CLI. Without an SSN, your EIN can take up to 8 weeks to come through after registering, unless expedited.

**Note:** Tax rules for non-US owners can get complex, so it's worth checking in with a professional about your situation.

### How much does it cost to register an LLC through Whop?

Forming your LLC with Whop is $400 for the first year, including your EIN registration, state filing fees, and registered agent. It's a recurring $100/year to cover your registered agent and ongoing service. For non-US residents, expedited EIN processing is an added $250.
