5 Things Most People Get Wrong About Online Privacy
Most people think going "incognito" means they're invisible. It doesn't. Here's what actually matters if you're serious about protecting your digital identity.
1. A VPN alone isn't enough.
VPNs encrypt your traffic, but your browser fingerprint, cookies, and account linkage still expose you. If you log into Gmail on a VPN, Google still knows it's you.
2. Your phone is the biggest leak.
Location data, app permissions, advertising IDs — your phone broadcasts more about you than any desktop browser ever will. Start there.
3. "Nothing to hide" is a trap.
Privacy isn't about hiding wrongdoing. It's about controlling who has power over your data. Today's harmless data point is tomorrow's leverage.
4. Threat modeling > random tools.
Before you install anything, ask: who am I protecting myself from? A stalker ex requires different measures than a data-harvesting corporation. Know your threat model first.
5. Compartmentalization is the real game.
Separate identities for separate purposes. Different emails, different browsers, different payment methods. The goal isn't perfection — it's making correlation expensive.
I've spent years building frameworks for this. If you want hands-on help, UNDERLUXE is where I break it all down — mentorship, courses, community, and tools.
