Flat-lay and model shots aren't the same apparel test

Swapping a flat-lay tee for a model shot of the same cut isn't a new creative test. One proves construction and fabric; the other proves fit on body. Give each its own claim, or Meta clusters both as the same SKU learning set.

Softness claims die without a fabric close-up

Apparel statics that say "buttery soft" next to a full-outfit shot still leave shoppers guessing stretch, weight, and wash feel. One cold static with a fabric detail plus a specific hand-feel line often clears what another lifestyle crop can't.

Shoppers return for fit. Your static still sells the vibe.

Shoppers return apparel for fit. Cold statics still open on lifestyle vibe.

If the size chart, rise, or true-to-size note is what kills returns, that line belongs on the ad — not buried on the PDP.

A new colorway isn't a new creative test

Swapping charcoal for olive on the same hoodie cut is merchandising, not a claim test. If the headline still says "premium fleece" with no fit or fabric proof, Meta clusters it with last week's assets.

Three checks before you call a static "tested"

Most teams call a static "tested" after a weekend of spend. Meta barely finished learning the claim.

Before you score it: clear learning volume, a claim distinct from every sibling live, and a proof line specific enough to stand alone.

Logo walls aren't proof on cold statics

A row of brand marks looks like trust. On cold Meta it reads as filler.

One concrete outcome line plus a proof detail beats the wall every time.

Business Meta ads sit in the top 3 on hook — and the bottom 3 on clicks

If your Business & Industrial motion ads stop the scroll and still don't get the click, you're not imagining it — that split showed up across the whole category this half.

Billo's cut of 88,329 Meta video sales ads ($122M spend → $212M purchase value):

Business & Industrial finished 2nd on hook rate at 28.74% — and 12th on CTR at 1.52%. It's the only category that sat in the top 3 on the open and the bottom 3 on the click at the same time.

• CTR swung 1.53pp across the half (widest of any category): Jan 1.04% (weakest any category·month) → May 2.57%. Electronics was second at 1.15pp.

• Hook still held above 28% from March through June (March peaked at 33.03%, highest any category·month) while market hook fell toward 23.99% in June. Half ROAS landed 1.84× (10th) against a 2.17× market (−10% from 2.41× last half).

A louder first three seconds won't fix a category that already wins the open and loses the click. For physical B2B SKUs, your motion ad board has to sell the use-moment and the next step — not another hook that already ranks.

Apparel Meta ROAS fell every month for a year — the open never broke

If your Apparel motion ads still look fine on hook and CTR, check what happened after the click for twelve straight months.

Billo's cut of 88,329 Meta video sales ads ($122M spend → $212M purchase value):

Apparel & Accessories ROAS fell every single month of H1Jan 2.88× → Jun 1.84× (−36%) — and that extends last half too: a full year with no month better than the one before.

• Hook and CTR held roughly steady across the same stretch. The open didn't break; what happened after the click did. Half ROAS finished 2.46× (6th of 14) and was under the 2.17× market by May.

• Half-to-half the category still fell 4.11× → 2.46× (−40%) while cross-industry ROAS only moved 2.41× → 2.17× (−10%).

Another packshot twin won't fix a year-long post-click slide. For physical apparel SKUs, your motion ad board has to sell fit, fabric, or the try-on moment — not another open that already held while ROAS walked down the stairs.

Food's best Meta click month wasn't the month that paid

If your Food motion ads chase the month that spiked CTR, check whether that was also the month that printed ROAS.

Billo's cut of 88,329 Meta video sales ads ($122M spend → $212M purchase value):

Food & Beverage finished 5th on CTR at 1.84% (up from 1.51%, one of the bigger climbs) and 4th on ROAS at 2.51× — with hook mid-pack at 26.14% (5th).

• The months disagree: CTR peaked in March at 2.11% (Jan 1.55% → Apr–May 1.97% → Jun 1.74%). ROAS peaked in February at 3.02× (Jan 2.44× / Mar–Apr 2.72× / 2.74× → May 2.08× / Jun 1.75×, ~42% off the Feb high).

• Cross-industry ROAS still fell 2.41× → 2.17× (−10%). A food board that only optimizes the open will celebrate March and miss that February was the money month.

For physical food SKUs, your motion ad has to sell the pour or the sampler that converts — not just the first-second spike that wins the click month.

Home & Garden Meta ROAS fell ~17% and still finished 3rd

If your Home & Garden motion ads look "fine" on half-average ROAS, check which months that average is hiding.

Billo's cut of 88,329 Meta video sales ads ($122M spend → $212M purchase value):

Home & Garden finished 3rd on ROAS at 2.83×, 3rd on CTR at 2.09%, and only 6th on hook (25.06%) — one of the few categories that cleared the whole funnel.

• The months tell a different story: Jan 3.52× / Mar 3.18×, then Apr–May 2.19× / 2.17×. Half-to-half it still fell 3.43× → 2.83× (−17%) and kept the same seat.

• Hook stayed flat (24.33–25.48%). The payoff after the open moved more than the open itself. Cross-industry ROAS still fell 2.41× → 2.17× (−10%).

A strong category board still needs a month plan. For physical home SKUs, your motion ad should sell the reveal — not a clever first second that the half-average already forgives.
