The beginner's mistake that kills 90% of new runners

Most people who start running quit within the first 3 weeks. Not because they're lazy — because they go too hard, too fast.

Here's what actually works when you're starting from zero:

Week 1-2: Walk more than you run. Seriously. A 30-minute session should be 20 minutes walking, 10 minutes jogging. Your body needs time to adapt — tendons, joints, and lungs don't get fit overnight.

Week 3-4: Flip the ratio. Now you're doing 20 minutes jogging, 10 walking. You'll be surprised how natural it feels.

Week 5+: String together full runs. By now your body has adapted. A continuous 25-minute jog feels doable. This is where the magic happens.

The secret? Slow down. If you can't hold a conversation while running, you're going too fast. The "conversational pace" rule is the single best piece of advice for beginners.

I built EliteRunClub to give beginner runners everything they need — structured plans, daily tips, and a community that actually shows up. If you're training for your first 5K or 10K, this is the place.
