The real reason most people never start their brand (and how to fix it)
I've been running 777 Divine — a hat and limited edition streetwear brand — for a while now. The #1 thing I see stop people from starting isn't money, isn't connections, isn't even skill.
It's not knowing what the first step actually is.
So here it is, broken down:
Step 1: Pick one product, not a whole line.
Don't try to launch with 10 SKUs. Pick one. Hats are great to start — low MOQ, strong margins, easy to customize. One product, one colorway, one run. That's it.
Step 2: Your supplier is your business partner.
Most people spend 3 months building a website before they even know their cost of goods. Flip it. Find your supplier first. Know your unit cost. Know your margins. Then build around that.
Step 3: Sell before you have inventory.
Pre-orders aren't a cheat — they're how you validate demand without fronting cash. Post it before it exists. If nobody buys, you saved yourself from a warehouse of unsold product.
Step 4: Limited = premium.
Don't do unlimited stock. Cap every run. Scarcity creates demand, demand creates culture.
This is literally how we've built 777 Divine. I'm opening a community where I share the exact tools, suppliers, and playbooks I use — for anyone serious about building their own brand.
