The AI side-hustle mistake almost everyone makes

Spent the last few months watching people try to turn AI into income. The ones who fail almost always do the same thing: they collect tools instead of building a workflow.

They'll have ChatGPT, Midjourney, an automation tool, a scraper โ€” five tabs open, no output. The ones who actually make money pick ONE narrow workflow (e.g. "turn Reddit threads into faceless YouTube shorts") and run it end to end, badly, before optimizing anything.

If you're starting out: pick one deliverable someone will pay for, map the 3-5 steps AI can do for you, and ship the first ugly version this week. Perfect workflows come after you've sold something, not before.

Building out a private space (AI Cash Lab) for people doing exactly this โ€” real playbooks, not theory. Happy to share what's working if anyone's stuck on where to start.

Most "AI side hustle" advice online is just prompt screenshots. Here's what actually moves the needle.

I spent the last few months testing AI workflows that people are genuinely using to make money โ€” not just tweet-thread bait. Three patterns kept showing up:

1. Narrow beats general. A single-purpose AI tool solving one annoying problem (repurposing long videos into clips, cleaning up messy spreadsheets, drafting cold emails from a CRM export) makes more money than a general "AI assistant" ever will. Buyers pay for outcomes, not chat interfaces.

2. The money is in the wrapper, not the model. Nobody's paying for GPT access anymore โ€” they're paying for the workflow around it: the templates, the automation, the QA step that catches when the AI is wrong. If your product is "just a prompt," you're one API call away from being replaced.

3. Distribution beats the tool. The people making real money aren't the best prompt engineers โ€” they're the ones who found 50 people with the exact same painful, repetitive task and sold them the fix. Build for a specific person, not "everyone who likes AI."

I'm building out a community (AI Cash Lab) around exactly this โ€” real playbooks, not screenshots. If you're testing AI-driven income ideas and want a gut-check, drop your idea below. Happy to poke holes in it.
