The #1 reason AI support desks break once you pass 20-30 tickets/day

Most ecom brands set up a single AI agent to "handle support" and it works great... until volume creeps past 20-30 tickets/day. Then it falls apart.

Here's why: a single monolithic agent tries to do triage, resolution, and escalation all in one pass. As ticket variety grows, its prompt gets bloated with edge cases, accuracy drops, and customers start getting generic or wrong answers.

The fix is a layered orchestration map instead of one giant agent:

  1. Triage layer — classifies the ticket (order status, refund/return, product question, complaint) and routes it. Nothing else.

  2. Resolution layer — specialized agents per category, each with a tight, focused script library (order status ≠ refunds ≠ escalations).

  3. Escalation layer — a dedicated handoff agent that packages context and hands messy/high-emotion tickets to a human cleanly, instead of a bot fumbling with an angry customer.

  4. QA layer — a recurring audit pass that catches drift in agent responses before it becomes a pattern of bad reviews.

Once you split responsibilities this way, you can scale from a handful of tickets a day to 100+ without quality dropping — because each layer only has to be good at one job.

If you're building this out for your store, this is the exact framework (with templates, scripts, and checklists) I teach in AI Ecom Support Desk Instructor.
