The study hack nobody teaches you: stop relearning the whole semester

Finals are 2 weeks away and you have 6 classes, 400 pages of notes, and no idea where to start.

Here's what most students do: they open the textbook to chapter 1 and start rereading. By hour 3, they've covered 8% of the material and feel worse than when they started.

The problem isn't effort. It's scope.

You don't need to relearn the semester. You need to sort it.

Here's the framework I use:

1. Scope first, study second. List every topic across every class in one place. Not to study them — to see them. You can't prioritize what you can't see.

2. Triage like an ER doctor. Not everything is high-yield. Look at past exams. What keeps showing up? That's your 20%. The rest gets a "skip or review" tag.

3. Build 20-minute blocks, not 3-hour marathons. One topic. One active recall set. 20 minutes. Done. Stack 3-4 of these and you've had a more productive day than most students have all week.

4. Stop rereading. Start recalling. Close the notes. Write what you remember. Check what you missed. That's active recall — and it's 3x more effective than highlighting.

The students who do well on finals aren't the ones who study the most. They're the ones who study the right things in the right order with the right method.

That's exactly what I built the Finals Short-Window Study Kit around — cheat sheets, worksheets, and templates that help you sort, prioritize, and execute in short windows.

If you're staring at finals and feeling overwhelmed, start here: list everything in one place, then cross off what doesn't matter. That alone will cut your anxiety in half.
