Before You Use AI to Fix a Delay, Ask This Question
When work keeps getting delayed, it's tempting to look for a tool that can speed things up.
But first, ask:
What is the next action that should happen, and why isn't it happening?
Consider a maintenance request that's already been assigned.
The delay could come from:
Missing information.
An approval nobody has authority to give.
A contractor who isn't available.
A handoff that never reached the next person.
A genuine shortage of staff or capacity.
These problems may look similar on a dashboard, but they require different responses.
AI might help organise unstructured requests or surface missing information.
It won't automatically solve a missing approval, unclear authority or insufficient capacity.
A small exercise:
Choose one recurring delay in your work. Write down the next expected action, who can authorise it and what is preventing it.
You may discover that the first improvement has nothing to do with AI.
That's still a valuable finding.
The goal isn't to use more AI. It's to solve the right problem.
