Why 90% of amateur footballers can't curve the ball (and how to fix it)
Most people think curving a ball is about kicking it harder. It's not. It's about contact point, ankle lock, and follow-through.
Here's the breakdown:
The mistake: Hitting the ball dead center with your laces. That gives you power but zero spin. The ball knuckles or flies straight.
The fix:
Plant foot position — Place it 6-8 inches to the side of the ball, pointed at your target. Most people plant too far back.
Contact point — Strike the ball with the inside of your foot, just below the bone on the side of your big toe. NOT the instep.
Ankle lock — Lock your ankle and keep it firm through contact. A floppy ankle kills spin.
Follow-through — Wrap your leg across your body after striking. This is where the curve actually comes from. Think of it like a whip motion.
Practice this with a stationary ball first. Set up 10 balls, hit them all with the same technique. You'll start seeing consistent curve within 20-30 attempts.
