3 things nobody tells you before your first $1M in e-com
Ten years into e-commerce and I still remember the exact week I crossed $1M in a single month. Everyone assumes that's the finish line. It's not — it's actually where the real problems start. A few things I wish someone had told me earlier:
1. Cash flow kills more stores than bad products.
You can have a winning product and still go broke because ad spend, inventory, and payouts don't land on the same calendar. Track your cash cycle before you scale spend, not after.
2. Your first 90 days of ads should be about signal, not profit.
Most people panic-kill campaigns on day 3 because ROAS looks ugly. The algorithm needs data before it optimizes. Set a "learning budget" you're willing to lose, and judge performance on day 14, not day 3.
3. The lifestyle comes after the systems, not before.
I see a lot of people chase the Lambo before they've built a business that runs without them in it. Build the machine first — team, fulfillment, customer experience — then the freedom (and yes, the exotic cars) actually mean something because you're not one bad week away from losing it all.
I built All Profit University because I wish I had someone hand me this playbook a decade ago instead of learning it the expensive way. Happy to answer questions below if you're in the trenches right now.
