Why your newsletter has 10k subscribers and $0 in revenue (the bridge funnel fix)
Most newsletter creators hit a wall at 5-10k subscribers: huge audience, zero revenue. Here's the mechanic that fixes it.
The mistake: Going straight from "free newsletter" to "$497 course" or "$99/mo membership." Massive price jump = massive drop-off. Your audience trusts your free content, not your wallet-opening ability.
The fix — the bridge funnel:
Free newsletter (top of funnel, no change)
A bridge offer — low-commitment, weekly-billed, with a short free trial (1-3 days). This is the missing middle step.
Paid core offer (course/coaching/community) — sold only to people who already converted once on the bridge
Why weekly billing beats monthly for the bridge step:
Lower per-charge amount = lower psychological friction at signup
Faster feedback loop on churn (you find out in 7 days, not 30)
Trial-to-paid conversion is measurable within days, so you can iterate fast
Recurring weekly cash flow compounds faster than you'd expect — $50/week feels smaller than $200/mo but is 30% more revenue annually
The trial mechanic: A mandatory 1-day free trial before the first weekly charge does two things — it removes "card required" objection anxiety, and it filters for subscribers who are actually going to engage (they open at least one thing before being charged).
If you've got an audience and no monetization layer, the bridge offer is the missing piece — not a bigger price tag on your top offer.
