The #1 mistake beginner traders make (and how to fix it)
Most beginners blow their accounts not because they pick bad stocks — but because they have zero risk management.
Here's what I see constantly: someone finds a "hot" stock, throws 30-50% of their portfolio at it, and prays. When it dips 10%, they panic sell at a loss.
The fix is dead simple:
Never risk more than 1-2% of your total account on any single trade. If you have a $1,000 account, your max loss per trade should be $10-20.
This means:
Always set a stop loss BEFORE you enter
Calculate your position size based on where your stop is
If the math says you can only buy 5 shares instead of 50, buy 5 shares
This one rule would have saved me thousands when I started. It's boring, but it's the difference between people who last in the market and people who blow up in 3 months.
