The #1 mistake killing new KDP low-content books (and how to fix it)
Most new KDP publishers pick their niche based on vibes, not data — then wonder why their book sits at zero sales for months.
Here's the fix: before you design a single page, validate demand with 3 quick checks:
Search volume vs. competition — if a keyword has decent monthly search volume but the top 10 results all have <50 reviews, that's a green light. High review counts across the board = oversaturated.
Price banding — look at what similar books are priced at. If you can't compete within $1-2 of the going rate, the niche isn't worth it yet.
Sub-niche freshness — trending sub-niches shift monthly (think seasonal planners, new hobby crazes, etc.). A niche that was hot 6 months ago may already be saturated today.
Skipping this step is why so many low-content publishers give up after book #1 — they're not failing at KDP, they're failing at research.
If you want this process done for you (keyword research prompts, layout guides, cover design parameters, and monthly fresh sub-niche drops), that's exactly what we built here. Check out the product above. 👆
