The #1 reason hockey players plateau (and how to fix it)
Most hockey players train like general athletes. Generic lifting programs, random cardio, zero periodization around their actual season.
Then they wonder why they're gassed in the third period or why their shot hasn't improved in two years.
Here's what I've seen coaching athletes at every level ā the ones who break through do three things differently:
They train around the hockey calendar, not around "leg day."
Your programming in July should look nothing like your programming in February. Pre-season, in-season, off-season ā each phase has a completely different goal. If your program doesn't change with your schedule, it's holding you back.
They prioritize mobility as much as strength.
A hip that can't open properly means a stride that's costing you speed every single shift. Most players are tight in the exact places that matter most ā hips, thoracic spine, ankles. 10 minutes of targeted stretching before every session compounds into a massive advantage over a full season.
They get coached, not just programmed.
A PDF workout plan doesn't watch your form. It doesn't adjust when you're dealing with a nagging shoulder. It doesn't push you when you're sandbagging a set. The athletes who level up fastest are the ones getting real feedback from someone who knows what to look for.
That's exactly what I built Amesbury Forged around ā individualized hockey performance training that adapts to where you are in your season, your body, and your goals.
