๐Ÿงถ Welcome to Amigurumi Academy โ€” Start Here!

Welcome to the Amigurumi Academy family! I'm so glad you're here.

What You'll Learn

This bootcamp takes you from absolute zero to confidently making your own amigurumi figures. By the end, you'll have mastered:

  • The invisible decrease โ€” the single technique that separates lumpy amigurumi from smooth, professional ones

  • Stuffing like a pro โ€” how much, when, and with what materials so your figures hold their shape forever

  • Your first complete figure โ€” a cute bunny you'll be proud to display or gift

How to Get Started

  1. Head to the course โ†’ Work through the chapters in order (they unlock sequentially so you build on each skill)

  2. Don't skip the practice exercises โ†’ Each lesson has hands-on activities. Do them. They're where the real learning happens.

  3. Ask questions in Student Community โ†’ Stuck on a stitch? Post a photo and I'll help you troubleshoot

  4. Check Updates & Tips โ†’ I post bonus techniques, pattern drops, and Q&A recaps regularly

Your First Week Roadmap

Day

Goal

1

Complete Chapter 1 โ€” get comfortable holding your hook and making a magic ring

2-3

Complete Chapter 2 โ€” nail single crochet, increases, and learn the difference between standard and invisible decrease

4-5

Complete Chapter 3 โ€” master the invisible decrease and make your first perfect sphere

6

Complete Chapter 4 โ€” learn professional stuffing techniques

7

Start Chapter 5 โ€” begin your first bunny!

One Important Rule

Tension is everything. If your stitches are too loose, your stuffing will show through. If they're too tight, you'll struggle to insert your hook. The course covers this in detail โ€” trust the process.

Let's make something beautiful. ๐Ÿฐ

Why Your Amigurumi Has Visible Holes (And the One Technique That Fixes It)

If you've ever finished an amigurumi piece and noticed small gaps or holes where you decreased โ€” you're not alone. This is the #1 frustration for beginners, and it comes down to one thing: you're using the standard decrease.

The Problem with Standard Decrease

A standard decrease (dec) means inserting your hook into the front loop AND back loop of the first stitch, then into the front loop AND back loop of the second stitch, then yarn over and pull through all loops.

That's 4 loops on your hook before the final pull-through. The result? A bulky stitch with a visible gap right where the two stitches were joined.

On a flat project like a blanket, this is barely noticeable. On a 3D amigurumi figure? It creates holes that show your stuffing.

The Fix: Invisible Decrease (invdec)

The invisible decrease uses only the front loops of both stitches:

  1. Insert your hook into the front loop only of the first stitch

  2. Insert your hook into the front loop only of the next stitch

  3. Yarn over and pull through both front loops (2 loops on hook)

  4. Yarn over and pull through remaining 2 loops

That's it. You're working with 2 loops instead of 4, which creates a tighter, flatter decrease that virtually disappears into the fabric.

The Difference in Practice

Standard Decrease

Invisible Decrease

Loops used

4 (all loops of 2 stitches)

2 (front loops only)

Visibility

Noticeable gap

Nearly invisible

Tension

Looser at join point

Tight and consistent

Best for

Flat projects

3D amigurumi

Quick Test

Make two small spheres (6-round balls). Use standard decrease on one, invisible decrease on the other. Stuff them both the same amount. The difference will be obvious โ€” and once you see it, you'll never go back.

This is one of the first techniques I teach inside the Amigurumi Beginner Bootcamp here at Amigurumi Academy, along with professional stuffing methods that keep your figures firm without distortion.
