The 3 things most people get wrong when buying a road bike

I've been building bikes for years, and I see the same mistakes over and over.

1. Obsessing over weight instead of fit.

A 7kg bike that doesn't fit you will be slower than an 8.5kg bike that does. Get a proper fit before you spend a dime on carbon.

2. Overspending on components, underspending on wheels.

Your wheels are the single biggest performance upgrade. A mid-tier groupset with great wheels will outperform a top-tier groupset with stock wheels every time.

3. Ignoring the ride quality.

Stiffness ≠ speed. A bike that beats you up over 60 miles will make you slower, not faster. Compliance in the right places (seatstays, fork) matters more than people think.

We built the Apex lineup around these principles. Every model — from the $100 City to the $10K Pro Race — is designed around fit, wheels, and ride quality first.

If you're shopping for a bike and want honest advice, drop a comment. Happy to help.
