Don't install 12 tools. Your first hour of Linux is this.

If you've never opened a terminal, ignore every "complete developer setup" thread. You need three things.

  1. A Linux environment. Ubuntu in a VM, WSL, or a cheap VPS. Pick one and stay on it. Switching distros is procrastination.

  2. The terminal. pwd, ls, cd, mkdir, cat. That is the whole first hour. Not Vim. Not Docker. Not a rice config.

  3. A text editor you will not customize. nano is fine.

C comes after you can move around a filesystem without thinking. People fail C because they treat the operating system as a mystery box. Linux is the box. Learn the box first.

Terminal, files, then C. Not the other way around.
