Don't install 12 tools. Your first hour of Linux is this.
If you've never opened a terminal, ignore every "complete developer setup" thread. You need three things.
A Linux environment. Ubuntu in a VM, WSL, or a cheap VPS. Pick one and stay on it. Switching distros is procrastination.
The terminal. pwd, ls, cd, mkdir, cat. That is the whole first hour. Not Vim. Not Docker. Not a rice config.
A text editor you will not customize. nano is fine.
C comes after you can move around a filesystem without thinking. People fail C because they treat the operating system as a mystery box. Linux is the box. Learn the box first.
Terminal, files, then C. Not the other way around.
