The 3 exercises every beginner should master before anything else
I've coached dozens of women who walked into the gym for the first time feeling completely lost. Every machine looks intimidating, every exercise feels wrong, and the free weights section might as well be another planet.
Here's what I always tell them: you only need 3 movements to build a real foundation.
1. Goblet Squat
Forget barbell squats for now. Grab a dumbbell, hold it at your chest, and squat. It teaches perfect form naturally — upright torso, knees tracking over toes, full depth. Do 3 sets of 10, twice a week.
2. Dumbbell Romanian Deadlift (RDL)
This builds your hamstrings, glutes, and teaches you the hip hinge pattern you'll use for everything. Start light. Feel the stretch in the back of your legs. 3 sets of 12.
3. Push-ups (modified is fine)
Knees on the ground? Totally fine. Incline on a bench? Even better. The goal is chest-to-surface, controlled movement. 3 sets of as many as you can do with good form.
Master these three for 4-6 weeks before adding complexity. You'll be shocked at how much stronger and more confident you feel.
If you want structured programs, form checks, and a community of women on the same journey — that's exactly what Aria Fit is for.
