5 Things I Wish I Knew When I Was First Diagnosed With RA

Getting diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis is overwhelming. Suddenly you're drowning in medication names, appointment schedules, and lab orders you've never heard of.

Here are 5 things that actually matter early on:

1. Write everything down. Your rheumatologist visits are fast. Track your symptoms, questions, and medication side effects before the appointment — not after.

2. Know your labs. CRP and ESR measure inflammation. Liver and kidney panels matter because your meds need monitoring. Ask for copies of every result.

3. Medication timing is everything. Missing a dose of methotrexate or skipping a biologic injection window can trigger a flare. Set real reminders — not "I'll remember."

4. Refills sneak up on you. Biologics especially need advance ordering. By the time you realize you're out, you've already missed a dose.

5. You're not alone. Over 1.3 million Americans have RA. Connecting with others who get it — the fatigue, the joint stiffness, the mental load — makes a real difference.

We built ArthriCare to solve all of this in one place: medication reminders, appointment scheduling, lab tracking, and a community of people who understand.

If you or someone you care for has RA, check it out.
