I ran a print-on-demand shop for two years before I figured out the actual bottleneck: not marketing, not fulfillment — design supply. Every week I needed 10-15 fresh designs to keep the storefront moving, and freelance designers were either too slow, too expensive, or both.

Here's what changed things: batching AI-generated art into curated, print-ready packs instead of commissioning one-off designs. A few things I learned along the way that might save you time:

1. Resolution kills more listings than style does. Most AI art tools export at web resolution. For actual print (t-shirts, posters, mugs), you need 300 DPI minimum with a transparent background — otherwise Merch by Amazon and Redbubble will reject the file outright.

2. Trend-chasing single designs is a losing game. One viral design a month doesn't build a catalog. Volume with consistent quality does. Sellers doing $5k+/mo on POD almost always have 200+ live listings, not 20.

3. Commercial licensing is non-negotiable. If you're using AI art for resale, confirm the license explicitly allows commercial use before you list anything. A lot of "free AI art" isn't actually clear to resell.
