The 5 Recovery Mistakes Killing Your Weekend Training
I've spent 3 years testing every recovery tool and protocol out there. Here's what I've learned — most people are doing it wrong.
1. Static stretching before training
You're actually weakening your muscles before you need them most. Dynamic warmups > static stretches. Save the stretching for after.
2. Ignoring sleep quality
No recovery tool will compensate for 5 hours of bad sleep. Blackout curtains, no screens 30 min before bed, consistent wake time. This alone changed my game.
3. Icing everything
The science has shifted. Ice reduces inflammation — but inflammation is part of healing. Use compression instead for most soft tissue soreness. Save ice for acute injuries only.
4. Skipping active recovery days
"Rest day" doesn't mean couch day. Light movement, foam rolling, 20-minute walks — these flush metabolic waste and speed recovery faster than doing nothing.
5. Buying cheap recovery gear
That $15 massage gun on Amazon? It's hitting at half the percussion depth of a proper one and dying in 3 months. Invest in quality tools that actually reach deep tissue.
At Athelix, we test and curate the recovery gear that actually works — and our members get it at exclusive pricing. No fluff, no gimmicks.
