The #1 reason detailers stay stuck at $3-5k/month (it's not your skill)
I've talked to hundreds of auto detailers over the years, and almost every single one who's stuck at $3-5k/month has the same problem: it's never the detailing.
Their paint correction is clean. Their ceramic application is solid. Their attention to detail (pun intended) is genuinely good.
The problem is they treat client acquisition like an afterthought — post a few before/afters on Instagram, wait for DMs, hope word of mouth kicks in. That's not a system, that's a lottery ticket.
Here's the shift that actually moves the needle:
1. Stop selling "a detail." Sell a tier.
"I'll detail your car" is a commodity. "Maintenance Program / Full Detail / Premium Ceramic Package" is a menu with an upsell path built in. Clients self-select into higher tiers when you frame it this way — you don't have to convince anyone.
2. Outreach is a numbers game with a script, not a vibe
The detailers booking 15-20 jobs a month aren't more talented — they're sending 10-15 outbound messages a day using a repeatable script (DM, email, or referral ask) instead of waiting for inbound.
3. Fulfillment is where repeat business is won or lost
A pre-job checklist, an on-site process, and a post-job follow-up sequence is the difference between a one-time customer and someone who rebooks every 6 weeks and refers their friends. Most detailers have zero follow-up process. That's leaving money on the table every single week.
None of this requires being better at detailing. It requires treating your business like a business.
If you want the exact scripts, pricing tiers, and checklists I use with clients, I put the whole system together — happy to share more if people want it.
