The real reason solo sales reps lose deals (it's not your pitch)
Ran the numbers on my own outbound for a while before building Autoreply Labs, and the pattern was brutal: most lost deals weren't lost to a better competitor or a bad pitch. They were lost to response time.
A lead replies at 11pm. You see it at 9am. By then they've already booked a call with whoever answered first. Speed-to-lead is the single most controllable variable in sales, and it's the one most solo reps and small agencies bleed on — because you can't be awake 24/7 answering emails.
A few things that actually moved the needle for me before I automated it:
Template your first reply, not your pitch. First response just needs to confirm you got their message and set the next step. Save the pitch for when you're actually present.
Segment by intent, not by lead source. A "pricing?" email and a "just curious" email need completely different response speed and tone.
Track time-to-first-response as a KPI, not just close rate. It's the leading indicator that predicts the lagging one.
Eventually I got tired of losing leads overnight and to weekends, so I built an AI agent that reads inbound emails and drafts replies in my voice within seconds of them landing — that's Autoreply Labs. Happy to answer questions if you're dealing with the same problem.
