What I learned sourcing soft baby clothes (and why most brands get it wrong)

Most baby clothing brands optimize for looks. I started BabyBloom because I was tired of cute outfits that scratched, shrunk, or fell apart after three washes.

Here's what actually matters when buying baby clothes:

1. Fabric first, design second

Look for 100% organic cotton or bamboo blends. Anything with polyester blends will trap heat and irritate sensitive skin. The cute print doesn't matter if your baby is uncomfortable.

2. Snap placement matters more than you think

Bottom snaps should be offset — not centered — so they don't dig in when your baby is lying down. Most parents don't notice this until it's too late.

3. Sizing runs small across the board

Always size up by at least one size, especially for newborns. A "0-3 month" from most brands fits a 1-month-old at best.

4. Washing shrinkage is predictable

Pre-shrunk cotton is marketing. Expect 5-10% shrinkage on first wash. Buy accordingly.

At BabyBloom, every piece is tested against these four standards before it goes in the store. Soft, safe, and actually worth wearing.
