4 Fast Crops Examples That Can Save You Money 🌱

If you’re thinking about starting a backyard garden but still not sure it’s worth it, here’s a simple strategy:

Grow crops that are expensive at the grocery store and easy for beginners at home.

Here are 4 good examples from the guide:

1) Leaf Lettuce (30-45 days)

Store-bought lettuce adds up fast, especially organic.
At home, it costs much less per pound and you can harvest multiple times from the same planting.

2) Radishes (22-30 days)

One of the fastest crops you can grow.
Very beginner-friendly and perfect if you want quick results.

3) Green Onions / Scallions (20-30 days)

Fast, practical, and useful in everyday meals.
Low effort, quick turnaround, and easy to keep producing.

4) Spinach (35-45 days)

Great value crop, especially in cool seasons.
Simple to grow and a strong choice if you want healthier meals for less.

The pattern is simple. These are high-value crops that are realistic for beginners.

You don’t need a huge backyard.
A small raised bed or even a few containers can be enough to start.

If you want the full breakdown, the Starter Guide includes 30+ crops, beginner difficulty levels, harvest timelines, and savings estimates... plus checklists and planning tools to keep it simple.

đź‘‹ Welcome! Here's How to Get Started with Your Guide

Welcome to Backyard Food Garden 🌱

This project started for me for three very personal reasons.

First, I grew up watching my grandmother’s garden come to life season after season, and that always stayed with me.
Second, I had a simple conversation with a colleague who has three young kids, and he told me how gardening helped his family eat better, save money, and build healthier habits together.
Third, I took a hard personal look at how much processed food we consume without really knowing what we are eating.

That combination made me want to do something practical: grow more of my own food, spend less on groceries, and feel better physically and mentally.

I created this space to be more than a place to download a guide.
I wanted a simple, friendly community where people can grow food at home, save money, and share real progress together.

If you bought the guide, use this community as your support system

  • Ask questions anytime

  • Share your progress

  • Post photos of your garden corner (big or small)

  • Celebrate wins and learn from mistakes

This community is for everyone

This community is not just for beginners or buyers.
It is for anyone who enjoys growing food and wants to share ideas, tips, and experiences. From first seed to full harvest.

Glad you’re here. Let’s grow together 🌿
