5 mistakes every beginner producer makes (and how to fix them)

I've been producing for years and I see the same patterns over and over with people just starting out. Here are the 5 biggest ones:

1. Spending weeks picking a DAW instead of making music. It doesn't matter. Ableton, FL Studio, Logic — they all work. Pick one and commit for 90 days.

2. Trying to sound like your favorite artist immediately. You wouldn't try to paint the Mona Lisa on day one. Start with loops, simple patterns, and basic arrangements. Build up.

3. Ignoring mixing from the start. You don't need to be a mixing engineer, but learning basic gain staging and EQ early will save you months of frustration later.

4. Never finishing tracks. The "8-bar loop syndrome" is real. Force yourself to arrange a full song structure — even if it's bad. Finishing is a skill.

5. Producing in isolation. Get feedback. Share your work. The fastest way to improve is having other producers point out what you can't hear yet.

I built Beat Lab to solve all 5 of these problems. Structured courses, a community of producers at every level, and weekly feedback sessions.

If you're serious about learning to produce, come through.
