Streaming platforms normalise playback to roughly −14 LUFS, so a master crushed to −6 gets turned down to the same perceived level as everything else — and arrives with its dynamics already destroyed. It sounds worse, not louder. We master to translate: controlled, with the transients intact, and delivered at the levels each platform actually wants.
