Feedloft — Self-Hosted Keyboard-First RSS Reader
Self-hosted RSS reader. Pay once, own it forever.
Feedloft is a fast, keyboard-first RSS reader you host yourself — folders, OPML import/export, full-text extraction, and instant search, in a dense dark-mode 3-pane layout built to be driven entirely from the keyboard (j/k to move, o to open, s to star, / to search, ? for the cheat sheet). Feedly Pro is $8/mo — $96 a year to read feeds that are, by definition, free and open. Feedloft is $24 once: one Node process, one SQLite file, zero telemetry, break-even in three months.
Add feeds by URL with automatic discovery from any webpage; RSS 2.0, RSS 1.0/RDF, and Atom
OPML import preserves folder structure; export is valid OPML 2.0
Smart polling: conditional GET (ETag/Last-Modified), per-feed intervals, automatic backoff
Full vim-style keyboard set with an in-app cheat sheet
Full-text extraction via Mozilla Readability for feeds that only publish summaries
Instant FTS5 full-text search across titles and content, even with tens of thousands of articles
Folders, unread counts, All and Starred views
No accounts, no analytics — the only network calls are to feeds you subscribed to
Runs as a Windows desktop app or on a $5 VPS (Docker included).
