Postbird — Self-Hosted Email Campaigns Over Your Own SMTP
Self-hosted email marketing. Pay once, own your list forever.
Postbird is email marketing without the monthly ransom on your own audience. Mailchimp charges $20+/mo at 1,000 contacts and passes $100/mo at 10k — for emailing a list you built. Postbird is $59 once: lists and segments, a drag-block builder that compiles to bulletproof table-based email HTML (no Outlook surprises), throttled sending through any SMTP you choose (SES, Postmark, Mailgun), and open/click tracking — all in a SQLite file you control. Built for newsletter writers, indie SaaS founders, and self-hosters who got burned before: CAN-SPAM/GDPR compliance is enforced in code, not suggested.
Lists + CSV import with dedupe and a rejection report; public signup endpoints per list
Double opt-in by default, with consent timestamp + IP stored for GDPR
Segments with live counts: domain, custom fields, opened/clicked last-N campaigns
Drag-block builder with desktop/mobile/source/plain-text previews and test sends
Throttled queue (default 30/min) — pause, cancel, resumes after restart
Compliance hard-block: no send until physical address is set; RFC 8058 one-click unsubscribe headers on every email
Open/click tracking with HMAC-signed tokens and per-URL click maps
Bounce webhooks (SES-SNS, Postmark, Mailgun, generic) with automatic suppression
Runs as a Windows desktop app or on a $5 VPS (Docker included) — use the VPS for real campaigns so tracking links resolve.
