The 3-second filter that separates a +EV boost from a trap

Most bettors lose money on "boosts" because they take every single one at face value. Here's the filter I use before touching any boost offer:

1. What's the true odds boost, not the sticker boost?

A "50% profit boost" on a -110 leg isn't 50% extra value — it's roughly 8-12% of edge once you back out the base odds. Always convert the boost into an implied probability shift before deciding it's worth using.

*2. Is the underlying leg something you'd bet at normal odds anyway?*

If you wouldn't take the straight bet without the boost, the boost is a trap disguised as value. Boosts amplify edge — they don't create it out of thin air.

3. What's the max stake, and does it clear your unit sizing rules?

Sportsbooks cap boosted stakes low on purpose. If the max stake is $25 and your normal unit is $100, the "boost" is mathematically not worth prioritizing over a normal position.

Run every offer through those 3 checks before you touch it. It takes about 3 seconds once it's a habit, and it's the single biggest reason most people either grind out consistent small wins or slowly bleed their bankroll chasing "free" boosts.

We go much deeper on filtering, staking, and building a repeatable system around this in Boost Lab Academy — but this filter alone will change how you look at every promo tab from today.
