Most people look up at the night sky and see chaos. But once you know where to look, it clicks.

Here are 5 stars you can spot tonight with nothing but your eyes:

1. Sirius — The brightest star in the sky. Look south after sunset and find the one that's almost too bright. That's it.

2. Betelgeuse — The red giant in Orion's shoulder. It's literally dying and could explode any century now. Worth a look.

3. Polaris — The North Star. Follow the two "pointer" stars at the end of the Big Dipper's bowl upward. Boom.

4. Vega — High overhead in summer, part of the Summer Triangle. One of the first stars ever photographed.

5. Arcturus — Follow the arc of the Big Dipper's handle away from the bowl. "Arc to Arcturus" — astronomers love their mnemonics.
