The #1 reason residential contractors lose jobs (and how to fix it)

Most residential contractors don't lose jobs because their work is bad. They lose them because their bids look unprofessional or take too long to deliver.

Here's what I see over and over:

The homeowner gets 3 quotes. Two arrive as hand-written line items or a basic text message. One shows up as a clean, itemized PDF with a scope of work, material breakdown, and a timeline.

Guess who wins the job? Every time.

The fix isn't complicated:

  • Itemize everything. Labor, materials, permits, disposal. When a homeowner can see exactly where their money goes, trust goes up immediately.

  • Send the bid within 24 hours. Speed signals professionalism. The longer you wait, the more likely they've already hired someone else.

  • Include a scope of work. One paragraph describing exactly what you will and won't do. This protects you from scope creep AND makes you look buttoned up.

I built BidForge specifically for residential contractors who are tired of guessing on estimates and losing jobs to competitors who just present better.

If any of this hits home — come check it out.
