5 flowers that actually last (and 3 you should stop buying)

Most people spend $50+ on flowers that die in 3 days. Here's what actually lasts — and what florists wish you'd stop asking for.

Flowers that go the distance:

  1. Chrysanthemums — 2-3 weeks easy. Not the sexiest pick, but they're tanks.

  2. Alstroemeria — Beautiful, affordable, and lasts 2+ weeks. Underrated.

  3. Carnations — Yeah, they get a bad rap. But modern varieties are stunning and last forever.

  4. Orchids — A single stem can last a month with minimal care.

  5. Sunflowers — 10-14 days and they light up any room.

Stop buying these for longevity:

  • 🥀 Tulips — Gorgeous for 4-5 days, then they droop dramatically

  • 🥀 Peonies — 3-5 days max. Beautiful while they last, but fleeting

  • 🥀 Gardenias — They brown if you look at them wrong

Pro tip: Cut stems at a 45° angle, change water every 2 days, and keep them away from fruit (ethylene gas speeds up wilting).

If you want flowers that actually last AND look incredible, that's literally what we do at Bloom & Co. Every arrangement is built around peak-season stems that are cut fresh.
