1. Pothos (Epipremnum aureum)

The undisputed champion of beginner plants. Tolerates low light, irregular watering, and basically asks nothing of you. Bonus: it trails beautifully off a shelf.

Care: Water when soil is dry. Any light works. That's it.

2. Snake Plant (Sansevieria)

Architectural, striking, and nearly indestructible. It thrives on neglect. Seriously — forgetting to water it is actually part of the care routine.

Care: Water every 2-3 weeks. Bright indirect to low light.

3. ZZ Plant (Zamioculcas zamiifolia)

Glossy, dark green leaves that look expensive. Survives in offices with no windows. Drought-tolerant to a fault.

Care: Water monthly. Any light except direct sun.

4. Spider Plant (Chlorophytum comosum)

Fun, retro, and produces baby plants you can give to friends. It's the plant that keeps on giving.

Care: Water when top inch of soil is dry. Bright indirect light.

5. Rubber Plant (Ficus elastica)

Bold, waxy leaves that make a statement. More forgiving than most ficus — just don't move it around too much.

Care: Water when top 2 inches are dry. Bright indirect light.
