Started a community for BMW owners who mod/tune their own cars, and the #1 mistake I see people make: they chase horsepower before they fix the fundamentals.

Here's the order that actually holds up over time:

1. Suspension & bushings first. A stock BMW with worn control arm bushings will feel worse with more power, not better. Fix play in the chassis before anything else.

2. Brakes. If you're adding power, you need to be able to shed it. Pads + fluid flush minimum before any tune.

3. Cooling. BMWs run hot, especially N54/N55/S55 platforms. A tune without a proper intercooler/radiator upgrade just means you're baking your engine faster.

4. Then tune. Once the car can handle grip, stopping, and heat, a stage 1 tune is safe and actually noticeable instead of masked by bad fundamentals.

Most people do this backwards because power mods are the fun, visible ones. But it's also why so many builds end up with expensive comebacks.
