The 3 things I wish I knew when I started going to the gym
I spent my first year in the gym completely lost. Too many YouTube videos, too many contradicting opinions, zero results.
Here's what actually moved the needle once I figured it out:
1. Progressive overload is the only thing that matters for muscle growth.
Not supersets. Not drop sets. Not "muscle confusion." Just gradually doing more work over time. Track your lifts. Add weight or reps weekly. That's it.
2. You don't need a complicated diet — you need consistency.
Stop trying to eat "clean" 100% of the time. Hit your protein target (0.7-1g per lb of bodyweight), eat mostly whole foods, and don't stress the rest. The best diet is the one you'll actually stick with for 6 months straight.
3. Recovery isn't optional — it's where you actually grow.
Muscles don't grow in the gym. They grow when you sleep and rest. If you're training 6-7 days a week as a beginner, you're sabotaging yourself. 3-4 hard sessions per week with proper sleep will outperform 6 mediocre ones every time.
I started Body Protocol to cut through the noise for people who are exactly where I was. Every week, one evidence-based breakdown you can actually use. No supplements to sell you, no programs to upsell — just real information.
If that sounds like what you need, come check it out.
