The beginner golfer's guide to not looking like a beginner
You just picked up golf. Your swing looks like a baseball bat meets a fishing rod. That's fine — we've all been there.
But here's the thing most beginners get wrong: they obsess over clubs and technique when the easiest win is literally just showing up looking like you belong.
Some quick rules:
1. Collar is king. Most courses require a collared shirt. Don't show up in a tank top. But you also don't need a $180 Ralph Lauren polo. A clean, well-fitted polo in a solid color goes a long way.
2. Skip the cargo shorts. Golf shorts should hit just above the knee, no pockets flapping everywhere. Flat front, clean line.
3. Shoes matter more than you think. You're walking 5+ miles on grass that's sometimes wet. Get actual golf shoes. They don't have to be expensive — just don't wear running shoes.
4. Keep accessories simple. A clean hat or visor, maybe a glove. You don't need the full PGA Tour costume.
5. Comfort > everything. If you're uncomfortable, your swing will be uncomfortable. Wear stuff that breathes and moves with you.
That's it. Look clean, feel good, play better. Golf is supposed to be fun — especially when you're just starting out.
We built Bogey Club around exactly this idea. Clean gear for people who are here to enjoy the game, not flex on the first tee.
