The 5-Minute Morning Reset That Fixed My Brain Fog

I used to wake up every morning feeling like my head was underwater. Couldn't focus in class. Couldn't remember what I studied the night before. Sound familiar?

Here's the dead-simple routine that changed everything:

1. No phone for the first 10 minutes. Your brain is in a theta state when you wake up — checking notifications hijacks it instantly. Put it across the room.

2. Write down your top 3 priorities. Not 10. Not 5. Three things. If you finish those, everything else is bonus.

3. 60 seconds of cold water on your face. Sounds stupid. Works immediately. It activates your vagus nerve and snaps your prefrontal cortex online.

4. Drink water before coffee. Your brain is 75% water. It just went 7-8 hours without any. Hydrate first, caffeinate second.

5. Review what you learned yesterday for 2 minutes. This is called spaced retrieval and it's the single most effective study technique neuroscience has found.

Total time: 5 minutes. The ROI on your entire day is massive.

I built BrainFlow to share more routines like this — daily guides, focus techniques, and a community of students who are actually serious about performing better.

If your brain feels like it's running on 40%, you don't need motivation. You need structure.
