The 3-minute rule that changed my ADHD productivity

I used to spend 45 minutes "planning my day" and then do nothing on the list.

Sound familiar?

Here's what actually works for ADHD brains: the 3-minute rule.

Instead of writing a to-do list and hoping motivation shows up, you do this:

  1. Pick ONE task

  2. Set a timer for 3 minutes

  3. Start — even badly

That's it. No elaborate system. No color-coded categories. No app with 47 features.

Why it works: ADHD brains don't struggle with doing — they struggle with starting. 3 minutes is short enough that your brain doesn't panic. And once you're in motion, you usually keep going.

I've been using this (along with a few other ADHD-specific techniques) for over a year. Built an entire ebook and planner around it.

The full system is inside BrainShift — practical productivity tools designed for brains that don't do "normal." No toxic hustle culture, no neurotypical advice repackaged with a brain emoji.

If you've tried everything and nothing sticks, this might be the shift you need.
