3 cultural shifts happening right now that most brands are sleeping on

Been curating culture for years through Culture Captures. Here's what I'm seeing right now that most people won't notice for another 3-6 months:

1. The "anti-aesthetic" aesthetic is becoming the aesthetic.

Brands are spending millions trying to look polished while the artists actually moving culture are leaning into raw, lo-fi, almost ugly visuals. Think early 2000s camera phone quality — intentionally. The brands that win next year are the ones brave enough to look unfinished.

2. Regional hip-hop is about to eat.

Everyone's watching Atlanta and LA. Meanwhile Memphis, Detroit, and Milwaukee are producing sounds that are going to dominate by late 2026. The artists are there. The infrastructure is catching up. If you're an A&R or brand looking for authentic partnerships — look regional, not coastal.

3. Pinterest is the new trend lab.

TikTok shows you what's popular. Pinterest shows you what people want to become. The moodboards being built right now — dark minimalism, archival fashion, earth-tone everything — are a 6-month preview of what'll be everywhere. If you're not monitoring Pinterest boards, you're working with yesterday's data.

This is what I do at culture_index. Monthly reports that break down what's coming next in hip-hop, fashion, and internet culture — before it's obvious.

Not vibes. Intelligence.
