The first 72 hours after a breakup decide everything

Most people handle the first 3 days after a breakup completely wrong. They either go no-contact cold turkey (too extreme for most), or they spiral into the "maybe we can fix this" loop.

Here's what I've learned actually works:

Hour 0-24: Feel it. Don't fight it.

Your brain is literally going through withdrawal — the same dopamine pathways that light up for addiction are crashing right now. Don't try to "stay strong." Cry. Journal. Call someone you trust. The goal isn't to feel better — it's to feel it without doing something you'll regret.

Hour 24-48: Create physical separation.

Not because you hate them — because your brain can't heal while the stimulus is still there. Mute (don't block) on social media. Move their stuff into a box out of sight. Change your phone wallpaper. Small things, huge impact.

Hour 48-72: Do one thing for future-you.

Go for a walk. Clean your space. Cook a real meal. It doesn't matter how small it is — what matters is you're proving to yourself that you still exist outside of that relationship.

The breakup happened. You can't undo it. But how you handle these 72 hours sets the tone for everything that comes after.

I wrote a full guide covering every phase of recovery — from the raw early days to rebuilding your identity and confidence. Link's on my page if you need it. ✌️
