The one thing most brides get wrong about wedding dress shopping

Most brides start dress shopping at bridal boutiques, trying on samples in sizes that aren't theirs, in lighting that isn't real, hoping something "feels right."

Here's the problem: you're choosing from what exists, not from what's possible.

Custom dressmaking flips the entire process. Instead of compromising on a dress that's "close enough," you start with YOUR body, YOUR vision, and YOUR timeline. Every stitch is intentional.

A few things I've learned from years of bridal tailoring:

  • Fabric matters more than design. A simple silhouette in the right fabric will always outshine an over-designed dress in cheap material.

  • Fit is everything. Off-the-rack dresses need 3-5 alterations minimum. Custom starts with your exact measurements — no guesswork.

  • Start early, but not too early. 4-6 months is the sweet spot. Enough time for fittings and adjustments, not so much that your body or taste changes.

If you're getting married and want something truly yours, this is what we do at Dress Shop. One bride, one dress, made from scratch.
