The 3 things that actually leveled me up as a developer

I spent years grinding tutorials and never felt like I was improving. Then I changed three things and everything clicked.

1. I stopped learning in isolation.

Reading docs alone doesn't build intuition. Pairing with devs who are slightly better than you does. You absorb patterns, shortcuts, and debugging instincts you'd never get from a course.

2. I started shipping ugly things fast.

Perfectionism is the enemy of growth. My best learning came from pushing half-broken projects live, getting feedback, and iterating. Every shipped project taught me more than 10 abandoned ones.

3. I got code reviews from people who actually cared.

Not automated linters — real humans pointing out architectural mistakes, naming conventions I'd never considered, and patterns I didn't know existed. This alone 10x'd my code quality in 6 months.

That's basically why I started The Build Lab — a community of junior and mid-level devs who review each other's code, ship weekly, and actually grow together.

If you're in that 1-4 year range and feel stuck, this might be your thing.
