Why hardgainers fail (and what actually works)
I spent 3 years spinning my wheels in the gym before I figured this out.
If you're a skinny guy who eats "a lot" but can't put on size, here's what's actually going wrong:
You're not eating enough. I know you think you are. Track it for one week. Most hardgainers are 500-1000 calories short every single day.
You're doing too much volume. Your recovery sucks because you're under-eating AND over-training. Cut your sets in half, focus on progressive overload on the big compounds, and actually let your body grow.
You're not sleeping. Muscle is built during recovery, not in the gym. 7-9 hours minimum. No negotiation.
The fix is simple but not easy:
Eat in a 300-500 calorie surplus consistently
Hit each muscle group 2x/week with compound movements
Progressive overload every session (even 2.5 lbs matters)
Sleep like your gains depend on it (they do)
I've helped dozens of hardgainers put on 15-20 lbs of lean mass in their first year using this exact framework. If you want the full program and coaching, that's what Built Different is for.
