The mission
Whop is on a mission to deliver everyone a sustainable income. Today, 50,000 people make money on Whop every month, and Whop users are on track to earn more than $5 billion this year. We are building the infrastructure for the next generation of internet entrepreneurs, and we will keep going until one billion people earn money on Whop every month.
What you’ll own
- Own key areas of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close: journal entries, accruals, cutoff, account reconciliations, variance analysis, supporting schedules, and resolution of open items.
- Prepare and support internal and external financial reporting, including financial statements, flux commentary, audit schedules, disclosures, and management reporting.
- Own and improve the procure-to-pay lifecycle—from vendor onboarding, purchasing controls, approvals, purchase orders, invoice intake and coding, through payment support, expense management, and accruals.
- Serve as an accounting owner for ERP and finance systems, including process design, data integrity, testing, reconciliations, workflow improvements, and implementation or optimization projects.
- Own or support equity accounting, including equity roll-forwards, stock-based compensation under ASC 718, and coordination with Legal, People, and equity-administration providers such as Carta.
- Research, document, and apply U.S. GAAP to routine and non-routine transactions. Prepare concise technical accounting analyses and communicate conclusions to leadership and auditors.
- Build durable, well-documented processes and controls that improve close quality, audit readiness, and scalability.
- Manage payroll accounting end to end, including payroll journal entries, accruals for wages, bonuses, and commissions, benefits and payroll-tax reconciliations, and coordination with People and payroll providers.
- Partner closely with FP&A, Legal, People, Tax, and business stakeholders to ensure accounting implications are understood early and recorded accurately.
- Support external audit requests, maintain clear workpapers, and help strengthen internal-control and public-company-readiness practices as the company scales.
- Identify opportunities to automate repetitive work while maintaining appropriate review, documentation, and accounting judgment.
What we’re looking for
- 4–7 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally including both public accounting and high-growth technology or fintech experience.
- Strong command of U.S. GAAP and hands-on experience with close, financial reporting, balance-sheet reconciliations, accruals, and audit support.
- Experience with AI tools and a habit of proactively using them to work smarter and faster, whether drafting reconciliations, analyzing data, or automating repetitive close tasks.
- Demonstrated experience with ERP systems and modern finance tools; NetSuite, Ramp, Carta, FloQast, or similar platforms are a plus.
- Direct procure-to-pay experience, including purchasing controls, AP workflows, vendor management, expenses/corporate cards, and close-related accruals.
- Experience with stock-based compensation and equity accounting; ASC 718 and Carta experience strongly preferred.
- Hands-on payroll accounting experience, including payroll entries, accruals, and reconciliations; familiarity with providers such as Rippling is a plus.
- Ability to research and document technical accounting conclusions across areas such as ASC 606, ASC 718, ASC 842, debt/equity, internal-use software, and other evolving business needs.
- Strong Excel and analytical skills; comfort working with imperfect data and improving the underlying process.
- A process-builder mindset: able to spot breakdowns, establish practical controls, and take solutions through implementation.
- Clear written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain accounting issues to non-accountants.
Nice-to-have experience
- Multi-entity, international, intercompany, foreign-currency, payroll, or consolidation accounting.
- SOX, IPO readiness, or financial-statement-footnote experience.
- ERP implementation, conversion, or finance-systems transformation.
