The #1 reason people fail certification exams (it's not lack of knowledge)
After running weekly cohorts through certification prep, the pattern is almost always the same: people don't fail because they don't know the material. They fail because they never built an Error Log.
Here's the method that fixes it:
Every time you miss a practice question, write down 4 things:
The topic/category
WHY you missed it — Knowledge Gap, Careless Error, or Misread Question
The correct concept in your own words (not copy-pasted from the explanation)
A real scenario where it'd apply on the actual exam
After 2-3 practice tests, sort your log by category. Whatever shows up 3+ times is your real priority — not "study everything," just those specific weak points.
Most candidates re-read the same textbook chapters over and over hoping it sticks. It doesn't work because it's not targeted. The Error Log turns vague anxiety ("I need to study more") into a specific, fixable list.
If you're prepping for PMP, CompTIA, CFA, AWS, or any high-stakes cert — start an Error Log today, even before your next practice test. It's the single highest-leverage habit you can build.
