Big bold impact-font captions have been the default for a while, but there's a shift happening: smaller, cleaner subtitle-style text positioned lower on screen is starting to outperform the loud bold overlay style in a lot of tests. The theory is that oversized captions have become so common they've started to read as generic "clip content" at a glance, while a cleaner subtitle look feels more like premium, editorial footage.

Doesn't mean bold captions are dead — context matters, and a punchy moment might still want the loud treatment. But if every single one of your clips uses the same maxed-out bold caption style by default, it might be worth testing a quieter subtitle look on your next post and comparing performance directly.

The mistake: keeping the same static bubble position and size for the entire clip regardless of what's happening. It becomes visual noise the viewer's eye learns to ignore within a few seconds.

What actually works: resize and reposition the bubble to match the energy of the moment. Bigger and more central during the peak reaction beat, smaller and tucked into a corner during setup or slower parts.
