Why most students study wrong (and how to fix it)

Most test prep advice tells you to grind more hours. That's not the problem.

The real issue: students re-read their notes and call it studying. That's passive review โ€” and research shows it's one of the least effective ways to retain information.

What actually works:

1. Active recall over passive review

Close the book and write down everything you remember. It's harder, but your brain retains 2-3x more.

2. Spaced repetition

Don't cram. Study a topic, wait a day, review it again. The struggle to remember is what builds lasting memory.

3. Full-length timed practice under real conditions

Phone away, timer on, no breaks mid-section. Test day pressure needs to feel familiar.

4. Analyze your mistakes, not your successes

Every wrong answer is data. What trap did you fall into? Drill those patterns until they're automatic.

The students who score highest aren't necessarily the smartest โ€” they're the ones who practice the right way.

If you're prepping for SAT, ACT, AP exams, or GRE and want structured guidance + a community doing the same work, that's exactly what Classam is built for.
